So how's that bracket? Thoughts about March Madness

What, you didn't have Norfolk State in the second round?

Ohio isn't your Sweet 16? You didn't know UNC's point guard was going to break the wrist on his non-shooting hand?

Well, join the rest of us. That is why they call it Madness.

None of us gets it right. From the committee who seeds the tournament and sets the brackets to the co-worker leading your pool. The "Madness" that surrounds March is just our reminder that we don't know it all, especially when it comes to future events.

In the pages of Scripture, we learn three important "omnis" about God. He is omnipresent. In other words, God is everywhere. There's no place that He's not. He's omnipotent. He's all powerful. Nothing's too difficult for God. And God is omniscient. Or all-knowing.

Here's something amazing to think about. Assuming that there is a 2024 NCAA men's basketball tournament, God knows how to fill that bracket out perfectly. He knows each "upset," the Final Four, and the champion. He knows the final score of the 2024 tournament, as well as the 2024 Final Four MVP. He even knows how many hairs are on the 2024 MVP's head.

But do you want to know what is really madness?

We can either trust our future to this loving Creator  - who knows the future perfectly because He's already there -  or we can trust it to ourselves. It's seems about as easy a choice as picking a No. 1 over a No. 16 seed.

Yet, the reality is we often trust our future to ourselves.

But here's the reality.

There's not a single one of us that couldn't receive a phone call or a text message in the next five minutes that could change our life forever. We're not really in control, but we love the illusion of being in control. And we certainly don't know the future. Our bracket is proof positive of that fact.

Instead of trusting ourselves, let's trust the God who knows all things. Anything else, well that's just madness.
