The title of this blog is a little misleading. I didn't actually find something better than swag. Actually, Someone better than swag found me.
This 45-second video link describes my life perfectly. In my college years, I used to think my swag (we didn't call it swag 15 years ago) was so important. I remember getting paychecks and spending the whole thing on Bo Jacksons.
I remember having like 20 pairs of new Nikes - all that looked brand new - for only one pair of feet. When I first genuinely encountered the love of Christ, that stuff lost its importance. In fact, I called my friends and gave those shoes away.
The God of the universe wrapped Himself in human flesh and died on a cross for me. Why? So that I could be forgiven of the cosmic treason I committed against the God of the universe. He took my punishment to demonstrate His great love for me.
Compared to that, the Bo Jacksons no longer seemed worth living for.
I had found something so much better. Or, to be correct, Someone so much better than swag found me. My desire now is for everyone to "taste and see that the Lord is good."
Having an encounter with the love of Christ is so much better than living for swag or anything else.
C.S. Lewish puts it perfectly.
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
Here's a great question to ask yourself: "Is what I'm living for truly worth living for?"

That's something to think about.
